What actually breaks on a garage door
Rollers grind and stick once the bearings wear out. Hinges loosen and let panels flex where they should stay rigid. Cables fray at the drum and eventually let go. A bent track or a damaged bottom bracket pulls the whole door off its line, so it runs crooked instead of straight up and down.
The bottom weather seal is the one people notice last, but it matters just as much: once it tears or hardens, the door stops sealing against the slab and everything from cold air to meltwater gets in underneath it.
Most of these show themselves before a full failure. If a door is grinding, running crooked, or you can see a frayed cable at the drum, that is worth a call before it becomes a door stuck halfway open.

Freezing rain is the classic West Fargo call. A door sitting in a puddle overnight can freeze straight to the slab, and forcing it with the opener does real damage: it tears the bottom weather seal or bends the bottom section trying to break the door free.

A torn seal from one freeze makes the next one worse, since the slab can ice up again right through the gap. And cold is often what finally takes down a spring that was already tired, which is a separate repair on its own.

When a repair is the wrong answer
A cracked or badly bent panel, a door that has been hit by a vehicle, or a door that keeps coming back with new problems on old, tired hardware is usually a sign that repair money is better spent on a new door instead.
We will tell you honestly if that is where you are, and estimates on new doors are free either way. Whichever way it goes, the work carries a 1-year parts and labor warranty on top of the manufacturer's own warranty.
